Recently during surface excavations carried out in the vicinity of the city Bademli that in Izmir province, archaeologists found mentioned in ancient books the island on which was built the ancient city of Cana.
After studying the geological samples taken from the strata of rocks of a small Peninsula near Bademli, archaeologists have discovered that the Peninsula was once in ancient times was an island. It turned out that the Strait separating the island from the mainland, over the centuries has filled with silt.
Open again is the third island in the chain Argiroski Islands, mentioned in the ancient sources. For many years among archaeologists, historians and geographers were debates about their location.
Archaeologists of the University of Cologne in cooperation with colleagues from the German archaeological Institute, with the participation of historians, geographers and geophysicists from the universities of Manisa, Cologne, Rostock and Southampton began an archaeological excavation to find the location Argiroski Islands, which, according to ancient texts, had to be located somewhere near Bademli. This year the students of our Institute was fortunate to host the summer archeological practice in the National reserve Sophia of Kyiv and Vyshgorod historical and cultural reserve.
In the study area in the upper town was found a ceramic complex of the XI century. According to archaeologists, in the XI century. on the territory of 5-6 ha here were 250-300 hearths. In sectors where horns were found had been excavated fragments of ceramic products. A collection of ceramics reaches thousands of fragments and complete products. A special place deserve the finds from the brands masters, finds the ornament.
In one of the sectors was found a garbage pit with fragments of pottery. Under which it was subsequently discovered the burial of a male radnog period of the tenth century. Under the weight of the soil the lower jaw have disappeared, but all the teeth are preserved in amazingly good condition.
A significant proportion of students historians, who interned scored great successes also in the National reserve “Sophia of Kyiv”. Where did a large amount of work to establish historical facts. Among some peoples of Ancient China (e.g. people’s Bo) was taken to suspend the coffin with the body of the deceased on a high rock, and on the side facing to human habitation. It was believed that mountains are a bridge between earthly life and afterlife, and the dead in the tombs will protect the living and bring them luck. The hanging coffins were made from a solid single piece of wood and placed on special stands, hammered into the rock. The oldest burial found is 3000 years old and the youngest is 400.
In Ancient Persia, the main religion was Zoroastrianism (he was later superseded by Islam), according to which the dead were not supposed to defile the earth and air, therefore corpses could not be burned or buried in the ground.
