Kruger Park Tour

Tsendze rustic camp site

A recent addition to the Kruger Park, Tsendze is located close to Mopani Rest Camp and offers a rustic experience within the natural environment. The Tsendze River and Nshawu Creek run through an area that draws huge buffalo herds and many elephant bulls. Alexander is one such tusker who is often found along the road between the two camps.

Letaba

This camp lies on the southern bank of the Letaba River which is a favourite spot for game like elephant and waterbuck. There are particularly lovely views along the river from the cafeteria and tame bushbuck meander about the camp.

Olifants

Towering over the Olifants River far below, this camp has the most dramatic setting of all with sweeping views of the Olifants Rugged Veld and a commanding viewpoint of the river and its banks.

Rest Camps in the Central Region of Kruger

Satara

This camp is beautifully situated in open tree savanna. This area offers the best grazing in Kruger National Park and is known for spectacular sunsets. The grasses draw great concentrations of game which in turn attract the lions. There are two bird hides near the camp as well as three dams and six waterholes.

Orpen

This tranquil little camp combines great game viewing with a peaceful setting. Tamboli Safari Tented Camp which has accommodation for the disabled, and the Maroela Camping Area are within a few kilometres of Orpen Camp.

Rest Camps in the Southern Region of Kruger

Skukuza

As the headquarters of Kruger National Park, this is the largest and busiest camp. It even has a resident doctor and pharmacy as well as car hire and repair. There is a lovely walk along the Sabie River and the new Skukuza Day Visitors centre located nearby, has some wonderful facilities. An indigenous plant nursery, a golf course and the Lake Panic bird hide are all within an easy distance.

Lower Sabie

This camp on the beautiful Sabie River has a reputation for being one of the best game viewing areas in the lowveld. You can see any number of waterbirds from the viewing area as well as hippo and crocodiles. Elephant, buffalo, giraffe and hyena are regular visitors.

Crocodile Bridge

Many of Kruger National Park’s white rhino hang out around here. You are also likely to see kudu, cheetah, warthog and the Big Five. The camp lies along the Crocodile River which forms the southern boundary of the Park. There are some San paintings at the Hippo Pool nearby.

Berg-en-Dal

Berg-en-Dal Camp is cradled in the rolling hills of the Malelane mountain bushveld – an area of rugged granite outcrops. The camp lies on the southern bank of the Matjulu Spruit (or spring). It’s beautiful, wheelchair-accessible promenade overlooks the dam and The Rhino Trail Walk is accessible to the blind. You may be lucky enough to see endangered wild dog here.

Pretoriuskop

This is the oldest of the camps and is located at a higher altitude so it is a cooler camp. You can sometimes see the rare sable antelope, Liechtenstein’s hartebeest and white rhino here. The Sabie Trail lies within the borders of the camp.

Bush Lodges, bushveld camps, overnight hides in Kruger National Park

Bush camps, lodges and hides are smaller facilities and if you want to stay in one of these, you need to book ahead of your arrival. They have no day visitor facilities at all – not even a phone, a toilet or petrol. These accommodation options are very special and each offers its own unique experience of the Park.

Bushveld Camps

These include Bateleur, Biyamiti, Shimuwini, Sirheni and Talamati camps.

Overnight Hides

There are two overnight hides: Sable and Shipandani

Bush Lodges

These are Boulders and Roodewal Lodges.

Private Bush Lodges

If you’re after the pampered ‘Out of Africa’ experience, there are a number of private concession lodges where luxury is the order of the day. These include: Imbali Safari Lodges, Jock Safari Lodge, Lukimbi Safari Lodge, Shishangeni Private Lodge, Singita, Lebombo Private Game Lodge, Tinga Private Game Lodge and Pafuri Camp

Whether you are after old-world luxury, rustic living or charming family accommodation, you will find something very special. Whatever your choice, the Kruger National Park will not fail to delight you.
